Notes from Another Son…

James Arthur Baldwin was, and is, a gift to this world. While his literary genius is world-renowned, he was a committed social activist and celebrated orator throughout his lifetime. I heard my first Baldwinian stories before I knew what an ear was (English teacher mom). His impact on my life has tangible examples; as a thinker, writer and human becoming. Baldwin challenged the idea of the American system as a global liberator of the oppressed while it persecuted every facet of his personhood. His queerness and Blackness are woven into the fabric of modern scholarship, while his lived and written experience should guide us all as people. What a man, what a fabulous life. – WD
